🎤 About The Singing Sailor: Bringing Sinatra to Life with Passion and Panache! 🎤
Ahoy there! I’m CDR Jim Bowman, but you might know me as The Singing Sailor. Originally, hailing from the vibrant shores of South Jersey, my musical journey began with the soul-stirring tunes of my grandfather, a saloon singer from Philadelphia. Even at the tender age of 3, I’d serenade the house with Sinatra’s classics, particularly “That’s Life.” Little did I know, these early notes would chart the course for a lifetime love affair with music!
In 1992, I embarked on a distinguished 21-year career in the US Navy Reserves. Rising through the ranks, I served as a Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, and even had a one-year Presidential recall to Guantanamo Bay post 9/11. Throughout my naval adventures spanning the globe—from Italy’s La Madellana to the sunny coasts of Australia and beyond—I shared my passion for music, earning the moniker “The Singing Sailor” from my fellow shipmates.
My heart beats to the rhythm of Sinatra, Valli, Darrin, Jones, and Martin—the true icons of the Rat Pack era. For three decades, I’ve graced stages from Jersey to Florida, bringing back the enchantment of the Chairman of the Board. Picture this: opening for luminaries like President Trump and Governor DeSantis at the prestigious 45 Club, crooning at Palm Beach’s most exclusive venues such as Mara Lago and The Sailfish Club, and even receiving nods from legends like Rush Limbaugh and Harold Davidson (Frank’s Manager) on national platforms.
During my college days at Rutgers University Camden Campus, I fronted Southern Rock and Big Hair Rock Bands, sharing stages with the likes of Bon Jovi and Cinderella at the legendary Galaxy in Somerdale, NJ. I even dabbled in radio, interning at WCAU Philadelphia and spinning records at WRCB and WSSJ in Camden, NJ.
My life’s tale doesn’t end on the stage; I’ve made cameo appearances in Hollywood, rubbing shoulders with Demi Moore in “GI Jane” and donning the role of a Dade County Sheriff’s Deputy in the NBC movie “Sudden Terror.”
But here’s the real adventure: post-retirement as a Commander, I set sail on a daring quest, hunting the infamous 1715 Spanish Galleon Fleet off Florida’s coast alongside the legendary Captain Carl “Fizz” Fismer. And as I pen my memoirs detailing my extraordinary year in GTMO, titled “The Real Meal,” I invite you to join me on this odyssey.
Currently, I’m adding the finishing touches to my latest creation, aptly named “My World,” a musical masterpiece that embodies my journey, passion, and love for life. So, come aboard and let’s set sail into a world where music and adventure intertwine, where every note resonates with the spirit of the sea and the soul of Sinatra.
